Why are some wineries moving to a screw top cap instead of a cork?
Many wineries are trying the screw top cork for 2 main reasons: Cork is limited in supply and expensive. On average, 1 bottle in 12 is flawed because of the cork. There can be bacteria that are in the cork that spoils the wine. The jury is still out on this issue; our recommendation is any wine that you are going to drink now is fine with a screw top. Until more research is complete, a cork may give you more security for a wine you want to cellar.

Why is wine decanted?
Wine is primarily decanted to allow the wine to breathe. As the wine interacts with oxygen it changes. This is especially true for an older or more expensive wine. The secondary reason is to remove any sediment that has collected in the bottle.
